I should have mentioned that the title of Claire Lombardo's novel is a reference to the Talking Heads song. The book has lots of music references, as the main character is remembering her youth and the bands she loved back then.
Love all of the book recommendations! I have Sandwich reserved at the library waiting for me to pick. Can't wait! Also, see you at the festival, I hope...
Oh good! It's a quick read. And yes! I think Emilie said you're volunteering? I hope you signed up for a shift during author panels--you'd be excellent as an introducer, but more on that later...
I like to read a dirty romance in the summer ever since I picked up a raunchy bodice ripper of a romance novel at a beach house I was staying at when I was in my 20s. Nostalgia.
Nostalgia indeed! Your comment also reminds me that sometimes a summer read is whatever you find in the beach house or other summer vacation place--like an old bodice ripper!
Such an interesting list Sarah, which I will be referring back to - I always enjoy your recommendations and so pleased to hear about the book festival. My nonfiction book of the summer is (so far) Griffin Dunne’s memoir though I have had to put it aside for a week or two because of its sadness. But I will definitely return to it & planning to chat with Abra McAndrew about it soon!
How exciting, about the festival! Best wishes. I have read The Real Americans and enjoyed it. And I’m almost done with The Friday Afternoon Club, too. I’ll have a post about that one later this month!
Thank you, Abra! And glad to hear you enjoyed Real Americans. And I really liked the Griffin Dunne memoir, even though I’m not a big celeb-memoir person. Will be interested to hear your thoughts!
Talking heads there first^^ You may find yourself…^^

My summer read so far has been The Bright Sword by Lev Grossman. Read on a camping trip so extra immersive and what a great read!
I’m excited to read that one! But a little daunted by the length, even though I love a long novel.
If you like King Author you’ll love it. He’s such a great writer.
He is! And I'm intrigued that he took on the King Arthur legend!
super modernized in some ways, very funny at times.
Interesting! Funny is good too!
Sarah I’m reading Fellowship Point and loving it! ❤️
I’m so glad to hear that! That was one of my favorites last year! There aren’t enough stories about a long friendship.

I had to rearrange my Friday and Saturday commitment as I just committed to coaching soccer this fall - I’ll go look at what’s left to volunteer for!
I just emailed you!

Which is one reason why I leave a copy of my novel in every beach house that we've stayed at along the North Carolina coast!

Thank you so much, Ann! Yes, there is a lot of sadness in Griffin Dunne’s memoir, but also great to see what comes out of it for the family.
I will keep going! Thanks, Sarah.
I will keep going! Thanks, Sarah.
Congratulations on getting the new book festival off the ground! That must have been a lot of work and it's impressive.
Sandwich sounds very tempting but I just checked my local (Cape Cod) library and there's a 21 week wait! That means I'll have to buy it. :)
Thank you, yes, lots of work, definitely more than we’d bargained for. But we’ve learned a lot, too. I bet Sandwich is a huge seller on Cape Cod!

Saving this list Sarah! Thank you! Claire Lombardo has been on my list and I’m starting Sandwich.
Oh good! If you read both/either, let me know! It’s funny how these two very different novels share some major elements.
Quite a few of these books that I hadn’t heard of and will check out now, thanks. And wow, about the festival! Congratulations! It looks amazing.
Oh, good! And thanks for the good words about the book festival! It’s coming into focus now, which is exciting.
