Why subscribe to An Unfinished Story?

I named my newsletter An Unfinished Story because we’re all writing our stories, sometimes figuratively, sometimes literally. I’m still working on my second novel, and I’m still figuring out life at midlife and beyond.

An Unfinished Story covers books, art, late bloomers, and writing. It also includes an occasional series called Midlife Authors, featuring writers who debuted at midlife.

Here’s a recent post on amazing late bloomer Mary Delany.

And a recent book post, an idiosyncratic roundup of comfort reads; and here’s another, a deep dive into a novel I recommend.

And a recent art-focused post.

And here’s the first of my series on midlife authors, because it’s never too late to begin writing. I published my first novel (The Wrong Kind of Woman, Mira/HarperCollins, 2020), at 55, and it’s part of my mission to show the world that there are lots and lots of midlife authors.

Historian, essayist, and Substacker extraordinaire

says this about An Unfinished Story:

“Such fantastic writing and research, everything you write about women writers, artists and collectors is an enormous pleasure to read, Sarah.”

And here’s what Amy Brown of Living in 3D says about An Unfinished Story:

“Sarah is not only a terrific novelist but also thoughtful on all aspects of midlife, writing, and living in a reflective and honest way, all attributes I admire and try to convey here on Living in 3D. Sarah's novel, The Wrong Kind of Woman, is about a woman who I think is exactly the right kind of woman, as is Sarah. And don't miss her great reading recommendations!”

A little more about me: I’m the author of the novel The Wrong Kind of Woman (Mira/HarperCollins). I’m also a longtime book reviewer and magazine freelancer, and I write and garden (the garden, too, is unfinished) on an old farm in New Hampshire.

Tell me your unfinished story—look forward to connecting! 💕💕
